Finnish Heavy Metal Pioneer Launches 'Band Mentoring' Service
February 1, 2013Kimmo Kuusniemi, SARCOFAGUS founder, guitarist and filmmaker, has launched a band mentoring service to assist aspiring bands in going forward. This recognizes that it is not easy to make it in the over-saturated and troubled music business, but with proper planning and advice, supplementing hard work and determination, it can be done.
As a band mentor, Kimmo will give unbiased, constructive advice, drawing on his decades of diverse experience, on how to steer a band towards achieving its goals. In this way, Kimmo will serve as something of a coach. He will not become the band's agent or manager, and will not take any share of the band's future earnings. What he will do is show the band how to further their cause themselves.
Band mentoring is done via email Skype video/calls or in person. The location is irrelevant.
Kuusniemi says: "Most bands can play but don't have a clue how to get to the next level. The band mentoring service has been in the back of my mind for a long time. Bands often come to me asking for help and listen to their tracks. Although many can play well, they rarely have the skills to do the business or technical side of the music.
"As a pioneer of heavy metal, I had to learn how to operate a recording studio, produce, promote and make music videos all by myself. Both the music and film businesses are evolving into environments requiring multi-skilled people.
"There are plenty of music schools that teach musicians to play, but nobody teaches them how to make it into a career. I can help bands and musicians in all areas of music to learn to advance their mission.
"Creative work is often disheartening; it is easy to loose faith in yourself. Bands are like families, and many problems can arise. I have been there, so I can help musicians to re-motivate themselves and give moral support."
